This piece was made during when a gay marriage bill was being proposed in New Jersey. It was right after election time, and the Democratic governor John Corzine had lost to Republican Chris Christie. If the bill had passed, the state of New Jersey would have legalized gay marriage, giving same-sex couples the equal rights and protections under federal law. It would have been a great victory for the LGBT community.

Unfortunately, activists who supported the bill and those who opposed it became very militant. They started stalking the representatives, going to their houses and children's dance recitals to protest and advertise their causes. I was appalled at the lack of courtesy and common sense that the activists exercised. They should have known that not only is it outrageous to go to someone's front lawn and a little kid's dawn recital to protest, it's also not a smart way to gain sympathy for your cause.

Because the representatives were harassed so much, they put the bill on hold, and now it will never get passed. There's no way Republican governor Chris Christie will pass a gay marriage bill, and it's going to have to wait four years anyway. Even though they were being harassed, I think the representatives were being selfish. Their harassment would end as soon as they made a decision, and they could have helped millions of people. Instead, they chose to help themselves.

But marriage shouldn't be about harassment, protesting, nor politics. It should be able about love.

And that's what this piece is about.

I agree. Its like when pple I heard about put grassead through the door of a polititian with really bad hay fever and asthma and when Peta set light to cars and stuff. Doesn't really help the cause. Protest in a more constructive way.

Love the blurry effect around the edge and of course use of colour.  The kids building blocks convey a sense of childlike innocence and simplicity in the (quite right) belief in love in all its forms. In fact my 5 year old sis had her two female Barbies get married the other week cause they are friends and love each other as she said.  I thought that was sweet. Wish more adults had so few mental boundaries to ideas and imagination :)
